Spanish Solar Giant Isofoton Enters U.S. Market

While U.S.-based photovoltaic (PV) manufacturers are increasingly looking abroad to gain new customers – taking advantage of the weak dollar that is fueling exports of US products in general – Spanish solar technology giant and manufacturer, Isofoton sees significant opportunity in the North American PV market. The Malaga based company will enter the U.S. market through a partnership with Energy Outfitters, a distributor of renewable energy products in North America.

Grants Pass, Oregon – March 5, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] “We are seeing that most of the other leading PV manufacturers are sending more and more product to European markets because they are realizing additional profits due to the favorable exchange rates,” said Bob Maynard, Energy Outfitters’ founder and President. “The timing for Isofoton’s entrance into this market will be a real value to our North American dealers/installers who will likely be facing short PV supply this year.” Most industry analysts are expecting the U.S. market to grow at a rate of 25-30% over 2003 levels, increasing from 60-65 MW in 2003 to 85-90 MW for 2004. “With partners like Energy Outfitters and an understanding of the rapid growth in the PV market in the US and all over the world, we are aggressively growing our production capacity from 36 MW last year to 45 MW this year and expect to grow into our new 100 MW factory in the near future,” said Javier Gorbeýa, CEO of Isofoton North America. In anticipation of strong demand for their product, Isofoton and Energy Outfitters will facilitate a number of training opportunities for dealer/installers interested in integrating Isofoton PV modules into their product line. “While Isofoton’s PV product may be new to the US market, they have grown to become the leader in Europe because they manufacture high-quality, efficient PV modules”, said Gord Petroski, Energy Outfitters’ Director of Sales. Isofoton manufacturs module sizes from 5W to 165W to fit most PV applications. For North American dealers and installers, Energy Outfitters will initially stock their 165W, 150W and 100W panels. “We have been first, a number of times, to introduce innovative products that add better efficiencies to our dealer/installers,” said Glenn Harris, Energy Outfitters General Manager. “We’ve gotten the message out and with the good work of our dealers and installers we have helped to grow our manufacturing partners into industry leaders.”
