March 5, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] Carmanah Technologies Corporation has filled a short-notice order by the U.S. Coast Guard for 40 of its 700 Series marine navigation lights to be used in the U.N. peacekeeping mission to Haiti. The Carmanah lights were delivered to the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Oak in Miami, Florida, for departure to Haiti this week. The Coast Guard will use the lights for marking navigation channels for U.S. and other foreign ships supporting the U.N.-authorized stabilization force. The U.S. Coast Guard chose Carmanah lights for a similar humanitarian mission in Iraq last year. In April 2003, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Walnut installed 35 Carmanah lights in Iraq’s Khawr ‘Abd Allah Waterway, a key navigation channel leading to the Iraqi Port of Umm Qasr, critical for post-war aid shipments and commercial traffic.
