Massachusetts Solar Energy Pursuit Gets OK

February 18, 2004 [SolarAccess.com] A South Boston suburb has moved one step closer to implementing a solar energy project, according to the Enterprise. The paper reports that Brockton’s Finance Committee approved a plan for the mayor to negotiate a US$500,000 deal with Bay State Gas Co. to sell 8.1 acres on Grove Street, off Main Street on the city’s south side, in hopes of creating a solar energy project that could potentially power 300 homes in the city. Sitting as the Finance Committee, city councilors also signed off on creating a Renewable Energy Enterprise Fund that will be overseen by the Department of Public Works commissioner and put into effect July 1 for the solar project.
