Utility Seeks to Include Wind Energy

July 15, 2003 []Minnesota-based Great River Energy (GRE) has identified the need to add approximately 1,500 MW of capacity over the forecast period to satisfy an increase in member demand for electricity. While most of this additional capacity will be procured through traditional fossil fuels, wind energy proposals will also play a part in addressing the company’s needs. GRE is increasing the amount of energy its members will receive from renewables by choosing five wind energy proposals for in-depth evaluation. Each proposal represents between 50 MW to 100 MW of wind energy which will contribute toward the company’s plans to add 100MW of wind energy to its generation mix by 2005.
