May 27, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] Shea Homes, a San Diego homebuilder, unveiled its Shea Stepping Stones program which the company calls the nation’s first energy-efficient, for-sale, affordable new home community. Shea Homes’ Bella Rosa will serve as the launching pad for the Shea Stepping Stones program and will include 42 affordable homes. Bella Rosa is situated in Shea’s Verrazzano community in Black Mountain Ranch. The 42 affordable housing units will include the same solar water and photovoltaic heating technology found in Shea’s market rate homes. The Bella Rosa community and the market rate homes within Verrazzano are currently under construction. Families will move into Bella Rosa this October.
