The Environmental Law & Policy Center-backed Renewable (Energy) Portfolio Standard (RPS) legislation (Senate Bill 25 and House Bill 2200) would require utilities to generate 5 percent of their energy sales in Illinois from Renewable Energy resources by 2010, and 15 percent by 2020. Thirteen other states, including several Midwestern states and Texas, have adopted Renewable Portfolio Standards.
