March 18, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] Representatives of the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and the Swedish Embassy in Hanoi on signed an agreement on cooperation in rural energy supply for the 2003-2008 period at a total investment of US$5.6 million. Vietnam-Sweden bilateral cooperation has been carried out in energy development in an effort to expand energy supply for remote and mountainous areas. This will help speed up poverty alleviation program, improve people’s living conditions, and increase environmental protection. The project will explore off-grid systems such as micro-hydro and solar photovoltaic systems. Furthermore, it will support central and provincial Renewable Energy policies and technical standards for rural electricity networks.
