January 3, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] According to a report in the Sydney (Australia) Morning Herald, electricity suppliers have been forced to increase their purchases from wind farms and hydroelectric projects because a growing number of Australians are choosing to pay more for green power, but many have had to wait because retailers underestimated the demand. Across the country, 62,000 households are seeking the cleaner alternative, according to the latest audit of the nationwide Greenpower scheme. The majority of the Renewable Energy comes from biomass and hydro projects with wind and solar making up 10 percent of the mix.
