October 22, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The European Commission last week granted clearance to a proposed joint venture between two German companies with US subsidiaries. German energy giant RWE and its American subsidiary ASE Americas will join forces with Schott Glass and the American, Schott Applied Power. The new company, to be known as RWE Schott Solar will bring the solar manufacturing operations of RWE and ASE Americas together with Schott’s PV distribution network under the new framework. RWE currently has a PV manufacturing capacity of about 60 MW in Germany and 20 MW of wafers at ASE Americas in Billerica, Massachusetts.
