August 27, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] A solar car built and run by the University of Toronto, that was part of the 2002 Drive the Future Tour was struck by an automobile as it began Wednesday’s leg of the event injuring the driver and causing major damage to the car. The driver of the automobile claimed to have seen the solar car, but didn’t know what it was that she saw. She impacted the left side front-nose of the car traveling at 70 km/h, knocking it to the side of the road by the impact. The driver of the solar car, David Nam, was taken to the hospital by paramedics but was not seriously injured and released late that afternoon with a fractured foot in cast, a bruised hip and a face laceration.
