June 28, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] Construction of an Australian waste-to-energy plant will begin in December 2002 in Brighton. Brighton Council has announced it is negotiating a contract with Test Energy. Test Energy managing director, Craig Ransley, said the project will create 238 jobs during the construction phase, and 60 full-time positions once the plant is operating. Construction of the Tasmanian facility is expected to take 18 months. The plant will supply 17 megawatts of renewable power. Ransley noted that all municipal solid waste that is not recycled, and some industrial waste, will be eligible for use in the plant.
