Japanese Wind Project Faces Delays

Japan’s Eco Power Co. has postponed the start of operations at a wind power plant in Aomori Prefecture’s Rokkasho Village until February 2003 in order to deal with some technical problems.

AOMORI, Japan – May 7, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] The plant had been scheduled to start operations in March 2002. But one of the plant’s nine wind power generators caught fire last January from high temperatures within the generator. Eco Power plans to build an additional 13 wind power generators in the fiscal year to March 2003 and supply electricity to Tohoku Electric Power Co. from the plant, which would generate a total 33,000 kW of electricity.
