GE Plastics Working on Wind Turbine Blades

2002-03-05 [SolarAccess.com] GE Plastics is working with Mass Megawatts Wind Power, Inc. to research injection molding for the production of plastic blades that will replace the metal blades currently used on their 2 kW prototype turbine in Charlton, Massachusetts. Mass Megawatts touts a new wind-turbine design (the Multi- Axis Turbosystem/MAT) that reduces wind energy cost by over forty percent. According to the company, MAT technology can produce energy at less than 2.4 cents per/kWh. GE Plastics is working to produce materials strong enough to withstand high wind speeds, ultra-violet rays and small particles such as sand in the wind.
