Green Energy Suppliers Get U.S. Award

A supplier of renewable energy in the United States has won an award for its successful marketing of green power in California.

PORTLAND, Oregon, US, 2001-08-10 [SolarAccess.com] A supplier of renewable energy in the United States has won an award for its successful marketing of green power in California. Green Mountain Energy Company received the ‘Green Power Leadership Award’ from the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Center for Resource Solutions. It was recognized as the first electricity provider to brand renewable electricity as a premium option for customers in the state and, through unusual marketing, is credited with educating the public on the negative environmental effects of fossil fuel and nuclear power generation. Customer demand has helped the company to build a number of new renewable generation facilities in markets across the U.S., including one of the largest wind farms on the east coast in Garrett, Pennsylvania, and two of the largest solar facilities in northern California. In California, despite difficult conditions, GME signed up residential consumers through innovative, grass roots sales activities and sponsoring community based events and promotions. Awards to GME and Commonwealth Energy were presented at the sixth annual Green Power Marketing conference in Portland, Oregon.
