U.S Company Offers Cross-Country Green Energy

A company in the United States says it can provide 100 percent of residential and commercial demand for green energy, anywhere in the continental market.

ATLANTA, Georgia, US, 2001-07-19 [SolarAccess.com] A company in the United States says it can provide 100 percent of residential and commercial demand for green energy, anywhere in the continental market. Sterling Planet, Inc. says it is the first company to offer a choice of full renewable energy in the lower 48 states. The service costs $5.95 per month. “For the price of a lunch, people just about anywhere in the United States can do something today to improve air quality and help develop the nation’s renewable energy market,” says company founder Therrell Murphy, who is also president and CEO. “What’s more, this small fee is easily offset by energy conservation and use of energy-efficient products, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs.” The company also markets an array of energy-efficient products, from solar and wind systems to compact fluorescent lighting. Sterling Planet already offers its green energy in 42 states and the District of Columbia. For a 100 percent upgrade, customers stay with their current electric utility but pay an average monthly premium of $15. There is no long-term contracts and customers can change or cancel their green power option at any time. “Doing something positive about the environment is now quick, convenient, easily affordable and widely available,” adds company vice president Ron Mitchell. “Sterling Planet delivers an environmentally friendly choice today to millions who have never had this choice before.” The company obtains two-thirds of its green power from small hydro facilities and one-third from geothermal generators in California.
