First Residential PV System Under New Rebate Installed in LA

The first residential solar energy system to qualify for a special incentive program has been installed in Los Angeles.

CAMARILLO, California, US, 2001-03-30 <SolarAccess.com> Siemens Solar Industries L.P. says its dealer, GO Solar(R) Company, installed the company’s earthsafe(TM) solar energy system on a home in San Fernando Valley. It is the first home in Los Angeles to qualify for the L.A. Department of Water & Power’s $5 per watt solar incentive program. Qualified customers in the LADWP area can receive a rebate that substantially reduces the cost of solar electric systems. “Our earthsafe systems were developed with ease-of-installation in mind from permitting through installation,” explains Chet Farris of Siemens Solar. “And now with offered rebates, it simply makes economic sense. Environmentally speaking, the homeowner is reducing dependence on fossil fuels and demands on the grid.” “Now that the earthsafe system has been installed, the homeowner is saving about 40 percent of the home’s power usage,” explains Graham Owen, owner of GO Solar. “The processing of the permit took about 15 minutes and the installation was done in a day — it was a very smooth and easy process.” Siemens says the earthsafe system is the only complete UL listed grid-tied solar system in the world. Siemens is headquartered in California, and is a member of the Siemens Solar Group, the world’s leading manufacturer of PV cells and modules. The company is one of the largest suppliers of solar panels in the U.S. Siemens AG, based in Berlin and Munich, is a leading global electronics and engineering company with 447,000 employees in 193 countries, and global sales revenue of $74 billion a year. GO Solar has installed solar systems since 1986. As a licensed California solar energy contracting company, it works with manufacturers to develop and integrate the latest systems. The United States is the single largest market for Siemens globally. In the U.S., Siemens employs 73,000 people and had sales of $16 billion last year.
