BP Solar Sponsors EMA’s Star-Studded Awards Dinner

BP Solar Sponsoring Environmental Media Association Dinner Honoring Hollywood Environmental Advocates

November 19, 2000 — Linthicum, MD — BP Solar, the world’s leading provider of solar power, is this year’s Presenting Sponsor of the Environmental Media Awards. The Environmental Media Association (EMA) is an organization of Hollywood actors, writers, producers, studio executives and others committed to improving the environment. BP Solar’s sponsorship kicks off on December 6, 2000 with a star-studded awards dinner in Santa Monica to be hosted by Wendy Malick and David Spade of TV’s Just Shoot Me. James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is slated to receive the association’s top award for Ongoing Commitment. Olivia Newton John will receive the Ermenegildo Zegna International Environmental Award and Jani and Chevy Chase will receive the Lifetime Commitment Award. Former EMA Award participants include Maya Angelou, Richard Dreyfuss, Jane Fonda, Harrison Ford, Mikhail Gorbachev, Vice President Al Gore, Quincy Jones, Kermit the Frog, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Robert Redford, Diane Sawyer, Sting and Ted Turner. BP Solar CEO Harry Shimp praised the entertainment industry’s embrace of solar energy as another indication of the tremendous growth and acceptance of solar in mainstream applications. “BP Solar is thrilled to work with EMA and its members to further increase awareness of solar energy through portrayals in the entertainment industry. The Awards recognize writers, producers, directors, actors, and others who have gone above and beyond their peers in consistently including environmental practices and story lines in their work. Such honorees have included Lauren Shuler Donner and Richard Donner, Rob Reiner and John Travolta, Ted Danson and Jim Fowler.
