The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is proud to announce and welcome Eran Mahrer into the newly created position of Vice President, Utility Strategy. In this role, Mr. Mahrer will lead SEPA's efforts in engaging utilities to develop best-in-class solar strategies and practices. He will work closely with utility leaders, regulators, developers and other key stakeholders to position solar energy as a core resource for utilities.

The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is pleased to announce and welcome Darren Deffner to the newly created position of Director of Policy. In this role, Mr. Deffner will lead SEPA's efforts to monitor and analyze proposed and current federal and state policies to ensure that the organization's members understand the potential impacts to their businesses. He will provide members with timely information on state solar policy trends and the impact of those trends on solar markets and utility operations. Mr. Deffner will also serve as a valuable resource for utility members who have questions about policy issues specific to their own company.

Solar Power International Breaks Attendance Records

Solar Power International 2009, the largest business-to-business solar energy conference and expo in North America, broke attendance records for the sixth year in a row last week. The 2009 conference drew more than 24,000 industry professionals, an increase from 17,500 in the previous year. Attendees originated from 99 countries and a broad cross-section of solar and related industries, including electric utilities, construction and investment banking. The annual Public Night event, open free to the general public, attracted an additional 2,700 people from the Southern California region.

SEPA Commends Florida Power & Light for Largest US Solar Facility

Washington, DC – The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) commends Florida Power & Light (FPL) and SunPower for the completion of the DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Arcadia, Florida. The facility will overtake Nevada's Nellis Solar Power Plant for the title of largest solar photovoltaic facility in North America. Constructed in less than a year, the DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center uses over 90,000 photovoltaic panels to turn the sun's rays into electricity to power more than 3,000 homes.

Anaheim, CA—The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) today announced the results of the 2009 SEPA Solar Business Achievement Awards. In the midst of today's challenging solar market conditions, the SEPA Board of Directors and staff are proud to recognize these utilities and solar companies who are responding to these challenges with action and innovation. Winners were selected in five categories based upon their demonstation of clear vision and imaginative business strategies. Nominees for the awards included one utility CEO, electric utilities, and solar companies from SEPA's 700 plus member companies across the U.S. and the world. Recognition of CEO of the Year winner, Don Brandt of Arizona Public Service, will take place today at 10:30 am in room 202 of the Anaheim Convention Center during the Press Conference. Solar Power International 2009, the largest business-to-business solar trade event in North America, will welcome 900+ companies from every part of the solar value chain to a sold-out exhibit floor at the Anaheim Convention Center. The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) and Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), co-presenters of Solar Power International since 2004, reported that the 2009 event will be more than double the size of the 2008 event, in terms of exhibiting companies and the net square footage of the trade show. More than 900 companies will exhibit, reserving a record 203,900 net sq. ft. of floor space. In 2008, Solar Power International had a total of 422 companies occupying 88,000 net sq. ft. of floor space.

SEPA Commends Southern California Edison

The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) commends the announcement today that Southern California Edison and First Solar have agreed to build two large-scale solar power projects in southern California. The agreement marks a key milestone in achieving SEPA's prediction that electric utilities will quickly become the largest and most important customer for the solar industry. According to Southern California Edison (SCE) and First Solar, the two installations will have a generation capacity of 550 megawatts of photovoltaic solar electricity, enough to provide power to approximately 170,000 homes.

Cash Grant Program to Facilitate Utility Integration of Solar Electric Power

The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is pleased to recognize the U.S. Department of the Treasury's release of guidance documents for the federal cash grant program for solar electric projects. The program is expected to further strengthen U.S. electric utilities' ability to integrate solar electricity into the power grid in the near-term. These cash grants can be utilized in lieu of federal tax credits, which have become more difficult to monetize under current economic and market conditions. The Program Guidance, Terms and Conditions, and Sample Application documents will provide solar project developers, including electric utilities, with much needed guidance as they move forward in this uncertain business environment.

Registration Opens for Solar Power International '09 in Anaheim, Calif.

Registration opened today for Solar Power International 2009, the largest business-to-business solar conference and expo in North America. Presented by Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) and Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), Solar Power International 2009 will take place October 27 – 29 at the Anaheim Convention Center. As of today, the show has already attracted more than 650 exhibitors, up from 425 exhibitors in 2008. Total exhibit hall floor space this year is 200,000 net sq. ft., with 167,000 net sq. ft. (more than 83 percent) already booked. This represents growth of more than double the size of last year's show. Judging by these early booking numbers, organizers are confident of another advance sell out of both exhibit space and registration. New this year, the show floor – which covers all solar technologies and all parts of the solar supply chain – will be segmented by product type, making the show easy to navigate for businesses looking to build and expand relationships.

The program encompasses 250 MW of utility-owned PV generation and an additional 250 MW of PV generation to be built and owned by independent developers under a streamlined regulatory process.
