Great promotional tool -- excellent production value.

Well, best of luck to Poet! This is certainly the right approach: use a waste product as a feedstock. You are essentially gettting the feedstock for free, in that you are already producing it (now new resources required). In some cases you may even solve a disposal problem. Talk about win-win.

But to call a pilot plant, prior to start-up, the answer to America's addiction to oil is a bit premature. The hard part is just beginning: producing results. If Murphy's Law is going to play its usual role, there is a bunch of unexpected issues waiting to be addressed. And when all of those issues have been addressed, it's up to the next scale, and whole new set of challenges.

Bottom line: it'll be a while before the jury gets in.

The US Treasury should create a free and fair market by issuing US RECs directly to individual (fully transparent) owners of all environmentally benign energy systems:

According to http://bioenergy.ornl.gov/papers/misc/energy_conv.html , each gallon of cellulosic ethanol contains 89 MJ of energy, or 24.7 kWh.

Treasury-issued US RECs should pay producers of cellulosic ethanol (derived from organic crops) $1.24 per gallon.

There's no need to waste resources on petro-banking warfare.

This is a great example of what companies can do to promote their industry. Not every company has the resources to create a film like this, but they should take note -- this is how to do it!

This is such a neat look at Poet's new pilot-scale cellulosic ethanol facility. The video takes you right inside the South Dakota facility. If you're interested in ethanol and want more information about alternative energies:check out http://www.greencollareconomy.com. It has hundreds of case studies on emerging green technology. It's also the largest b2b green directory on the web.
