OriginOil like so many other companies have launched another pilot program using algae as an energy source, while making statements like this is going to become a household thing of the future, but does not know what is going to happen. What does that mean? I hope their literature is better then their bombed CEO, standing in front of a party and saying nothing for almost 2min of speaking.

Whoops! Another CEO who doesn't understand Economics. In a competitive, free market, specialization is what advances the society. Hence our willingness to bow to Big Oil. They do the dirty work, we get to keep our hands clean. And to pay for the priviledge. Some with anything else you buy, including services.

You want to brew you own algae-fuel in the backyard? Better have a big backyard and a lot of free time. Will you still be happy to do so if the car dealer cancels your warrantee because he's concerned what "that stuff" will do to the car?

Perhaps Mr. CEO is suggesting you trust your local yokel to brew the fuel for you. Great! To all the above concerns, add whether you trust him and thinks his business will be around six months hence.

In the best case scenario OriginOil's system works as advertised and gets bought out by Big Oil. At least then you'd have someone to sue if the algae-fuel melts down your car's engine. Contrary to popular belief, Big Oil would love to cancel their contracts with dubious governments and buy their feedstock local.

But I'm getting way ahead of myself. This is the start-up of a PILOT plant. We don't even know if OriginOil will be around six months from now. That CEO is not inspiring much confidence...
