Not surprising that Sun Edison's founder would bad mouth FITs. SE's model is to capture the majority of each states' sREC market even before the RPS laws are in place. A U.S. FIT would greatly reduce SE's competitive edge--the slaughter "pigs" comment is simply more scare tactics.
Using MD and DC as examples??? Nonsense! If you didn't have a deal done with a utility you will have to market your sRECs to aggregators. RPS's based on using RECs for compliance is simply a way to keep the strong "fat and happy". SE sizes its projects to absorbs RPSs solar carve outs as the % within the RPS grows.
Why doesn't anyone ever mention the installation problems that soooo many of SE's projects have experienced--at $3.90/Watt installed (his quote) do the math...best case scenario of component prices leaves very little money for design and install--corner cutting gets you big problems down the road (especially with the roof warranty issues that have been/will be "uncovered")
SE will be selling off its projects just to keep operations going--they will continue to do REC transactions and capture portfolios, but the music will eventually stop.
