About William C.

Bill is a director of The Leighty Foundation, a small, charitable, family foundation started by his father in 1985, in their hometown of Waterloo, Iowa. He and his wife, Nancy, own Alaska Applied Sciences, Inc., a small energy R&D and consulting business. They are the former owners of the Gold Creek Salmon Bake in Juneau. Bill has EE and MBA degrees from Stanford. He has focused these past twelve years on co-authoring over twenty research papers exploring alternatives to electricity for transmission, storage, and integration of diverse, stranded, renewable energy resources — of which Alaska has an abundance – especially as carbon-free hydrogen and ammonia fuels via pipelines.

Bill has lived in Juneau forty-one years, where he has served on the organizing committees of the Southeast Alaska Science Fair, the Marie Drake Planetarium, and the Juneau Sustainable Community Roundtable. He also supports the Juneau World Affairs Council was on the Juneau Energy Advisory Committee. Bill and Nancy hike, bike, kayak, and garden. They live in an earth-sheltered house. They want many future generations to enjoy Southeast’s natural splendor and unpeopled verdure. ACF is essential to this Earth protection. Bill is honored to support and encourage ACF staff’s success.
