I am a Chemical Engineer and Polymer Scientist by training, but in my CleanTech entrepreneurship I have been pursuing DC power transmission & distribution (T&D) innovations. This is one of those issues that lies behind other more visible issues. For example, improvements in DC power T&D has large implications for both supergrids and microgrids, which are both important enablers for renewable energy, but lying on opposite ends of the size scale. Elpipes (Electric Pipeline Corporation) are primarily relevant for the supergrid, whereas Ballistic Breakers are important enablers for DC power T&D all the way from kilowatts (microgrids) up to gigawatts (supergrids).
