For 28 years I taught Biochemistry as a vocational subject to biomedical students and pure scientists. I took early retirement and in 2003 went as a volunteer to Uganda to be the full time person to establish from greenfield Mountains of the Moon University. The University has had five graduations and by a variety of rating agencies is rated between 2 and 5 in Ugnada and around 20 in East Africa. MMU is not a machine for turning out graduates but focuses on the needs of local people, taking them from where they are, working with them to reach their potential and teaching them the skills and giving them the practice to do the job they have trained to do. MMU is set up to be Community University unafiliated to tribe, religious group or any other affiliation. I am interested in Renewables not only because it is the way the world has to go but for a country like Uganda it will be a matter of life or death.
