EGS Takes Geothermal Global
I am surprised that the company in Oregon had to drill to 10,000 feet to find hot rocks. The Deschutes National Forest is supposed to be potentially volcanically active, and under that condition hot spots should have been available nearer to the surface.
Mt. Hood last erupted 200 years ago, and is near both Portland, Oregon, and the Columbia River. Is there no hot spot closer to the surface near Mt. Hood, a 'low-hanging fruit', so-to-speak?

This Year in Geothermal Energy
This is encouraging news. I never could understand why more effort was not put into developing geothermal power.

Airlines To Use Synthetic Diesel for Ground Service Equipment
Some more details on Rentech's operations would be welcome.
How about using Southern California's hillside brush for feedstock? We are plauged with firestorms every year now, it seems, so removing some of the brush from the hillsides before the yearly fires could be a win-win situation.

Sea Power, Part 3
I keep thinking of all of the lost opportunities we have had. If the federal government had continued with Pres. Carter's lead into alternative energy development, with even 1% as much money as we spend on our military, war, and secret spy budgets, the progress we would have made would have been immense. Instead, the following administration actively dismantled the programs started by Pres. Carter.

A Rising Tide for Water Power Funding?
This country committed itself to huge infrastructure investments in hydropower development in the depressed 1930s. Another round of investments in the renewable energy sector in the coming decade could have similar results for the economy, both short and long term.

SkyFuel to Install SkyTrough Collectors at Cogentrix Facility
Eventually something like this has got to work. When it does, it can become the model for similar facilities around the globe, in areas with lots of high-incidence sunshine. If this can work as far north as the southern U.S., it should be able to work even better closer to the equator.

Raser & SCPPA Reach 110-MW Pre-Paid PPA Deal
I hope this works. Raser's lower temp geothermal model, if successful, could be exploited to provide a very signifigant percentage of the total electrical needs of North America.
