Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association has announced the Featured Speaker for the Policy Luncheon during Texas Energy Independence Week is Evan Smith, Editor-in-Chief, CEO, The Texas Tribune. Continuing a long tradition, Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA) has declared February 20 – 24 Texas Energy Independence Week, only one week prior to Texas Independence Day, March 2.
"Evan Smith is known for his clear thinking and keen insights into the Texas and national political arenas, and we need all the clarity we can get during this critical legislative year," said Russel Smith, TREIA Executive Director. The Texas Tribune, during its first year in operation, won two national Edward R. Previously Smith spent nearly 18 years at Texas Monthly, stepping down in August 2009 as the magazine's president and editor-in-chief. He previously served as editor for more than eight years — only the third person to hold that title. On his watch, Texas Monthly was nominated for 16 National Magazine Awards, the magazine industry's equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize, and twice was awarded the National Magazine Award for General Excellence. For eight years, Smith hosted a Lone Star Emmy Award-winning weekly interview program, Texas Monthly Talks, a show that aired on PBS stations statewide. He currently hosts a new show, Overheard with Evan Smith, a show that now airs on PBS stations nationally.
