Stoel Rives Releases "The Law of Ocean and Tidal Energy"

August 6, 2007
Portland, Oregon In keeping with Oregon's leading role in the growth of renewable energy, the law firm Stoel Rives LLP is releasing a new book titled The Law of Ocean and Tidal Energy. The book will debut August 10 at the second annual Ocean Renewable Energy Conference in Corvallis, Oregon.

This is the fourth in a series of books published by Stoel Rives, aimed at helping foster the development of renewable energy projects and technologies by providing developers, investors and lenders with a general overview of the legal issues encountered in a typical renewable energy project.  The first three such books—on legal issues relating to wind power, biofuels and geothermal power—are regularly updated and are considered valuable resources in their respective industries.

The Law of Ocean and Tidal Energy covers a variety of topics, such as project financing, power purchase agreements, corporate structure, siting and permitting, taxes, incentives, construction and energy transmission.  “Stoel Rives’ interdisciplinary teamwork is the secret behind these Law of books, which are unique in their broad scope,” notes Stephen Hall, head of the firm’s renewable energy practice group.  “Our cross-practice teamwork also enables us to provide soup-to-nuts legal services for renewable energy projects.”

Stoel Rives launched its renewable energy practice in the mid-1980s, with work on small-scale wind generation projects, landfill methane generation projects and biomass and waste-recovery energy facilities.  The practice grew rapidly in the 1990s, when the firm began assisting clients with major wind energy projects.

With the emergence of new technologies, Stoel Rives has continued to stay at the leading edge of the evolving renewable energy sector, representing two prominent ocean and tidal energy developers.  The firm is a frequent sponsor of and participant in renewable energy conferences.  Several of its attorneys will speak at ocean energy conferences in August:
