SolPowerPeople will welcome Ryan Mayfield of Renewable Energy Associates, LLC on Thursday August 16th, 2012 to present "Grounding and Bonding in Solar PV Systems" as part of the SolarMOOC- a massive open online course designed to teach advances solar concepts and applications to a world-wide audience for FREE.

This course was born out of a desire to assist students in preparing for the NABCEP Ryan MayfieldPhotovoltaic Installer Exam™ this past March, and has become a thriving international success with more than 1000 participants in over 70 countries and 43 of the 50 US states. The SolarMOOC is a great resource for those preparing to take the NABCEP PVI exam as well as any individuals just wanting to hone their knowledge of solar photovoltaics with experts from around the world.

SolPowerPeople is excited to announce the participation of Ryan Mayfield as he kicks off the month leading up to the exam with a presentation directly tied into the NABCEP PV Installer Job Task Analysis.  Ryan will  offer an overview of Grounding and Bonding [Article 250 of the 2011 National Electric Code] including it’s purpose, definitions, and key sections pertaining to solar photovoltaic systems.  He will also cover grounding and bonding requirements from Article 690 of the 2011 NEC, the chapter that defines specific electrical guidelines for solar photovoltaic systems.  Lecture topics will include equipment grounding conductors and system grounding, including purpose, methods, code requirements and more.

Ryan Mayfield has been working in the renewable energy field since 1999 and is the President of Renewable Energy Associates, a consulting firm providing design, support and educational services for electrical contractors, architectural and engineering firms, manufacturers and government agencies. Ryan serves as Photovoltaic Systems Technical Editor for SolarPro magazine, regularly authoring feature articles in SolarPro and Home Power magazines and authored PV Design and Installation for Dummies. Ryan was also a contributor and video team member for Mike Holt’s, Understanding the NEC Requirements for Solar Photovoltaic Systems.

He is a Certified Master Trainer (from the Institute for Sustainable Power and Quality) for the PV course he teaches at Lane Community College. Ryan also teaches various PV courses across the nation for electricians, existing solar professionals, code officials, inspectors and individuals looking to join the solar industry. Class topics include National Electrical Code and PV systems, commercial PV systems, introduction to PV systems, preparation for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Exam and NABCEP’s Certified PV installer test. Ryan holds a Limited Renewable Energy Technician (LRT) license in Oregon, is a certified PV installer by NABCEP and chairs the state’s LRT apprenticeship committee.
