November 12, 2007
Chicago, IL, The Solmetric SunEye has been selected as one of BuildingGreen?s 2007 Top-10 Green Building Products of the year by the editors of Environmental Building News and GreenSpec?. This annual award recognizes the most innovative and exciting green building products annually. The Solmetric SunEye was selected from among 230 candidate products.

The Solmetric SunEye is a hand-held electronic device for measuring solar shading and calculating solar access. It has an integrated fish-eye lens and digital camera that captures an image of the site, allowing the user to plot solar exposure at that location. Users can edit images, simulating the removal or addition of obstructions such as trees or structures. Solar access shading percentages, including hourly, daily, monthly, and annual data can be determined in the field and uploaded to a personal computer via USB for further analysis, reporting, and printing. The SunEye automatically generates reports for sales quotes and rebate applications.  The SunEye also includes a number of add-on options, including GPS.

Solmetric Corporation’s core values provide a framework for the development of products that are key to improving the environment and to creating a sustainable world energy supply, while maintaining sustainable business practices.  Accordingly, the Solmetric SunEye is produced using sustainably manufactured raw materials, including Richlite, and recycled or reused packaging materials.  The company’s business practices include CO2 neutral operations. Further, Solmetric’s innovative 1/1/1 program directs the company to donate 1% of its SunEyes, 1% of personnel time, and 1% of equity to non-profit organizations in the alternative energy and environmentally oriented industries.

The Solmetric SunEye was selected by the editors of Environmental Building News (EBN) based on criteria developed over the past 15 years.  Solmetric President, Willard MacDonald, said: “It is an honor to receive this prestigious award because it recognizes the tremendous achievements of the Solmetric technical and business team.”  The award was given today at the GreenBuild show in Chicago, IL.
