The California jobless numbers keep climbing, threatening to grow to the worst rates seen in the state since the Great Depression. Depressing. But thanks to billions in stimulus money poised to be distributed soon, there is one sector of the economy that will soon be booming - the green sector.
The US Conference of Mayors, University of Massachusetts, and the American Solar Energy Society have all released reports recently predicting job growth across virtually the entire spectrum of the green economy. In some cases explosive growth.
The task for the job-seekers, of course, then becomes figuring out where they fit in to this emerging green economy.
To make that task a bit less daunting, The Solar Living Institute and the San Diego Renewable Energy Society are teaming up to help environmentally conscious workers explore and secure green career opportunities. On April 25th they will present the San Diego Green Career Conference at San Diego State University.
The conference will include extensive information and insider tips on emerging opportunities in the green sector as well as practical tools and strategies from green career consultants and recruiters for conducting a successful job search in this burgeoning economy. Speakers include Dr. Emily Young of the San Diego Foundation, Andrew McAllister of the California Center for Sustainable Energy and Paul Hannam of Bright Green Talent recruitment firm.
Panelists and presenters from across the green sector will discuss opportunities in the fields of photovoltaics, solar thermal, wind power, green building, energy efficiency, waste water, entrepreneurialism and more. Free resume review will be available throughout the day to conference participants and there will be ample networking opportunity.
Conference organizer Orion Walker says his experience at the recent Good Jobs Green Jobs conference in Washington, D.C. solidified his belief that now is the perfect time to enter the green career market.
“The excitement in the air was palpable,” Walker said, “We heard over and over again from senators, congress members, and other government officials that ‘now is the time.’ This administration is truly dedicated to building the green economy. In these tough economic times this really is the way forward.”
