Three Utility Experts Join SEPA Team
April 22, 2008, Washington, DC The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) is pleased to announce the addition of three utility experts to the organization's staff in the role of regional director. The regional directors are responsible for expanding SEPA's one-on-one utility support capabilities and developing regionalized events and tools of value to SEPA's utility members.

SEPA serves as a bridge between its 100 electric utility members and 150 solar industry members to push solar forward more tangibly, one real business at a time. From national conferences to one-on-one utility assistance and peer matching services, SEPA’s unique joint partnership offers members critical access to the key business relationships and unbiased, actionable intelligence needed to make solar practical and profitable in today’s shifting energy landscape. “SEPA prides itself on the ability to act as the ‘solar eyes and ears’ for utilities and to offer quick responses to information needs of time-challenged utility employees,” says Julia Hamm, SEPA executive director. “Our organization has always served as an unbiased source of information for utilities, helping take the time and risk out of solar electricity, and we are especially excited about the opportunity to expand these services down to a more localized level with the addition of three regional directors.” The regional directors bring wide ranging and complementary expertise of value to SEPA’s membership: Christy Herig (cherig@solarelectricpower.org) serves as SEPA’s regional director for the Eastern US. She brings a strong background in the Southeast US private electric utility industry and solar value analysis. In addition to 15 years at Florida Power Corporation (now Progress Energy), Christy targeted solar market definition, valuation and assessment as a Principal Research Engineer at the National Center for PV at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. She also chairs the International Energy Agency’s, PV Power Systems, Task 10: Urban Scale PV Applications, and has provided consulting services to the USDOE, the PV industry and the California Energy Commission. Jim Harding (jharding@solarelectricpower.org) serves as SEPA’s regional director for the Western US. He brings to the table an extensive background with large Western US public and private utilities and regulators. He served as Director of Power Planning and Forecasting at Seattle City Light, and also worked on developing electricity policy for the California Energy Commission and Northwest Power Planning Council. Jim has provided consulting services for clients including Burbank Water and Power, Public Power Council, Snohomish Public Utility District, Rocky Mountain Institute, and the Large Public Power Council. Tom Nicholas (tnicholas@solarelectricpower.org) serves as SEPA’s regional director for the Central US. He has more than 20 years of executive level experience in the electric utility industry, including 7 years on both the regulated and unregulated sides of NISOURCE in Indiana. More recently, Tom served as Central US Regional Operations Manager with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), and has also served and chaired numerous EPRI and EEI utility committees.
