NAVFAC deploys Second Wind's remote sensing system in Africa

The NAVFAC renewable energy team is evaluating Navy facilities as part of the Navy’s goal that at least 50% of the Navy’s “shore-based energy” requirements come from alternative sources by 2020. Triton will be used to assess the wind resource potential for U.S. bases to evaluate whether the use of wind turbine generators for base energy generation is a viable option.

By measuring wind speeds at the turbine rotor's hub height and beyond, Triton reduces uncertainty in annual energy production (AEP) forecasts. Easy to install and capable of autonomous operation, Tritons are being used throughout the wind industry, alone or in conjunction with met towers, to streamline the wind farm development process and to improve wind farm operations.
