Second Wind announced today it has expanded its North American sales team with the addition of Gregory J. Shambo as Director, Major Accounts. Shambo joins the company as interest in using remote sensing products such as Second Wind's Triton® for wind measurement continues to rise. Nearly 200 Tritons are deployed by leading wind developers in 17 countries around the world. Triton has amassed more than 1.2 million hours of global wind data since its launch in 2008, the equivalent of nearly 150 years of operation.

“Demand for our Triton Sonic Wind Profiler remote sensing system has grown significantly in the past year, especially from the world’s leading wind project developers, many of whom have deployed Tritons and learned first-hand about the system’s high quality data capture, excellent reliability, and ease of deployment,” said Peter Gibson, Second Wind’s VP of Sales. “Given this increased demand, we needed to bolster our sales team with additional results-oriented sales professionals with the ability to establish and cultivate new business accounts for Second Wind. Greg embodies these characteristics and we’re extremely pleased to have him join our team.”

Shambo brings to the wind measurement technology leader more than 15 years sales experience with particular expertise in capital equipment sales, sales management, marketing, direct sales, business development and strategic planning. He was previously vice president, sales and marketing at Responsive Solutions, a web-to-print and online marketing automation systems provider. Shambo’s sales efforts helped the company double its revenue and achieve profitability. Prior to Responsive Solutions, Shambo held various sales and marketing positions at HubCast, Inc., Eastman Kodak and Creo Products. At Second Wind, Shambo will be responsible for cultivating new major accounts among leading companies in the wind industry.

“Second Wind has a long history and reputation for innovation, good technology and excellent customer support. Everyone I've met at Second Wind is very passionate about what they do,” said Shambo. “Second Wind’s products help mitigate the upfront costs of establishing wind farms while providing a significant return on investment for developers. My mission is to help our customers cost-effectively fund their wind farms and make them operational as quickly as possible so we can all benefit from using wind as a renewable source of energy.”

Second Wind’s Triton uses sodar (sound detection and ranging) technology to measure wind up to and above the 140-meter blade tip height of current utility-scale wind turbines. Designed for wind energy applications including wind resource assessment, micro-siting of wind turbines and ongoing monitoring of wind conditions on working wind farms, Triton has been in commercial use since April 2008. The Nomad® wind resource data logger compiles data from all industry-leading sensors and sends it to users through a wide range of remote communications options, including SkyServe. Second Wind recently sold its 10,000th Nomad. The units are deployed on seven continents, from the Arctic to Antarctica, with each unit compiling data from as many as 20 weather sensors.
