New 60-Meter Tilt-Up HiMast(TM) For Wind Energy Resource Assessment

The new design has been commercialized in Europe for the past year before being introduced to the United States for testing in late 2005. Second Wind Inc. is NexGen's only stocking distributor in North America. Second Wind offers a full range of tower systems for permanent or temporary installation: 40, 50 and 60-meter tilt-up towers from NexGen and 60, 70 and 80-meter lattice towers from Sabre Site Solutions.

The lightweight mast tubes are constructed by winding steel in a spiraling technique. This reduces the transmission of vibrations and increases the structure's stability and strength. This innovative spiral tubing system is the key to the new design's ability to withstand ice loading. The 9" diameter spiral steel tubes make up the lower 36 meters of the tower. Standard 6" diameter tubes complete the remaining 24 meters. All HiMast Series towers are specifically designed for remote monitoring and have been extensively tested with dedicated simulation software.

An additional feature of the 60-meter HiMast is the mini gin pole, used to safely lift the 15-meter gin pole. With other towers, crews manually raise the gin pole, which can be difficult and hazardous. The HiMast employs a mini gin pole to lift and lower the main gin pole, ensuring safety and ease of handling for everyone on site.

The tubes are joined together in a novel way using a precisely fit internal coupler. This method provides a snug fit without bolts and can be easily disassembled. The base plate has also been completely redesigned for the 60-meter tower and is reinforced and hinged. Its footed design withstands a 26,000 lb load.

Like all NexGen masts, the 60-meter HiMast is made of hot-dip galvanized steel with a ten-year warranty against tube corrosion.
