Seaview Sensing Celebrates Fifth Birthday with Free Trial

By Judith Pigg

Seaview Sensing is celebrating its fifth birthday by offering all HF radar users with over 12 channels a free software trial.

Managing Director, Tessa Hodgkinson said "It is great that we have reached our fifth year with a number of installations worldwide.  The renewables market in particular is proving to be a growth area for us. Clients appreciate the benefits of land based equipment offering simultaneous wave and current measurements"

Seaview Realtime Software processes phased array HF radar data to provide real-time measurement of surface currents, waves and winds and creates maps, time-series plots and directional spectrum wave plots with high temporal and spatial resolution and large area coverage, up to 250km offshore. The data is calculated at multiple grid points across the coverage area, this could be 300 high quality data points across an area of 500 to 20,000 km2.

If you would like to enquire about trialling the software please contact Judith Pigg judithpigg@seaviewsensing.com for further details.

Notes to editor

  • Seaview Realtime Software provides full directional spectra data, measuring waves across a field and not at one particular cell
  • As the radar system is located onshore, the equipment is easy to service and maintain, is not at risk to shipping or fishing equipment and provides a good long term data solution.
  • Gaining concurrent, long term wave, wind and current data over a large area may help not only in feasibility studies for offshore renewable energy and system design, but may also allow refinement of the application specification and aid installation, so reducing costs.
  • The met-ocean data may also be used in the operation of coastal equipment, for example, providing long-range real-time data may allow precautions to be taken as approaching storms are measured.
  • Seaview Sensing Ltd was established in 2004 by founder Professor Lucy Wyatt
