RevoluSun expands, adding jobs and office space

Hawaii's largest locally owned solar design and installation firm adds six positions; leases an additional 2,900 square feet of space

Jennifer Pang
July 14, 2011

www.RevoluSun.com – Hawaii's leading solar energy firm, RevoluSun, announced today it has just added six new "green collar" jobs as it expands into an additional 2,900-square-feet of space in the Pan Am Building located at 1600 Kapiolani Avenue, and anticipates adding 15 more jobs by year's end. New employees include electrical and mechanical engineers, as well as accounting personnel with RevoluSun. In leasing additional space, the firm acknowledges that it has outgrown its sustainably designed and constructed 5,305-square-foot corporate offices in the building's penthouse and needs the additional space to consolidate its residential construction operations.

“As Hawaii’s fastest-growing solar energy firm, we’re pleased to continue to add green collar jobs to Hawaii as RevoluSun expands to serve the Neighbor Islands as well as increased demand on Oahu,” said Eric Carlson, RevoluSun partner.  “All in, we expect to triple the amount of work we do in 2011 over 2010 and are working to set up crews on Maui and the Big Island. As Hawaii’s largest locally owned solar firm, we are proud to be providing jobs for Hawaii residents statewide.”

RevoluSun is moving its construction operations and accounting department into the new space on the eighth floor of the Pan Am building. Currently 72 people work for RevoluSun on Oahu, 3 on Maui and 3 on the Big Island.  To date, RevoluSun has installed 6 MW of residential renewable energy projects across the state, and in 2010 alone designed and installed 430 solar systems.

“With our robust growth, we anticipate adding as many as 15 more jobs by year’s end,” Carlson said.
RevoluSun’s partnership with installation partner, American Piping & Boiler Co. (APB), has also led to that kama’aina company’s growth.

“We’ve seen substantial growth in the solar sector of our business, so much so that we created a renewable energy division of APB,” said Shane Lau, American Piping & Boiler Co. Executive Vice President. “This translates into more jobs for our electrical and installation crews, as well as additional project manager positions, general manager positions, accounting and administrative jobs.”

“APB is proud to partner with RevoluSun, and foresees further growth of our renewable energy division.  In addition to the solar work, we have a large union labor force and project management staff at the H-Power, third unit addition, a waste-to-energy project.  In fact, this year our renewable energy division has contributed to more than 50% of our project revenue for the year to APB’s bottom-line.”

RevoluSun is Hawaii’s leading solar provider, designing and installing more residential photovoltaic projects in 2010 than any other company.
