Russian decision makers to get the know-how for expanding bioenergy

Places still available for 5-day course with a stipend on Biogas in St Petersberg for those who apply to RENAC by the end of the month

January 29, 2013

In February political and business decision-makers in Russia will be able to attend a programme to enhance their knowledge about bioenergy. The courses will be conducted by the Renewables Academy (RENAC), based in Berlin, Germany, as part of the international project TREE (Transfer Renewable Energy & Efficiency). TREE is being sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics as part of the Renewables Made in Germany initiative. The initiative forms part of the German Government's commitment to contribute to climate protection through the promotion of renewable energy technology internationally.

The first seminars will be held in Veliky Novgorod and St. Petersburg and are being supported by the Veliky Novgorod city administration and the German Chamber of Commerce in Russia. "Bioenergy is currently an important topic, and so we are convinced that the initiative will be of interest to the experts in the city administration, and to those responsible in financial institutions and industry associations. Additionally, this project will be a good platform for further strengthening and developing our work together, "said the Deputy Mayor of Veliky Novgorod, Alexander Rozbaum.
From June 2013 additional, going-deeper seminars will be offered in RENAC’s Renewable Energy Training Center in Berlin.

The north-west of Russia in particular has a large unused potential for using bioenergy. The aim of the seminars, forming part of the TREE program in Russia, is to provide the relevant authorities with a grounded understanding about bioenergy technologies, and to provide them with the expertise to be able to establish suitable conditions for project funding. A focus will also be placed on how local commerce can be boosted through the development of bioenergy, so supporting the economy as a whole. To prepare for the seminars, participants will be able to participate in RENAC’s online training.

The international TREE project, launched by RENAC, has been running since 2008. To date, policy makers and business participants from 51 countries across the world have undertaken training as part of the programme. Russia has been a partner country in the project since 2011.
