Prism Solar Technologies Receives $1.5 Million Manufacturing Grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

San Francisco, July 15, 2009

Today at the Intersolar North America 2009 conference, Prism Solar Technologies, Inc., a manufacturer of a unique holographic solar technology for solar-electric modules, announced receiving $1.5 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) through the Renewable, Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency Product Manufacturing program. The program provides New York consumers with greater access to renewable, clean energy, and energy-efficient products by assisting manufacturers to further develop or expand current manufacturing operations within the State.

"Investing in New York's clean energy industries is one cornerstone of Governor David A. Paterson's comprehensive energy agenda, which will make New York the most energy-efficient state in the nation, expand the use of renewable energy technologies, and tackle the crisis of climate change," said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO of NYSERDA.

Funds will go towards the purchase of manufacturing equipment for Prism Solar’s Holographic Planar Concentrator (HPC) module production line, which is slated to be in operation by the end of 2009. The manufacturing line is currently under development at Prism Solar’s newly purchased 93,000 sq. ft facility in Highland, New York.

“These funds from NYSERDA will help Prism Solar enter into the photovoltaic market with a groundbreaking new product,” says Richard Lewandowski, President and CEO of Prism Solar.

“Investing in New York’s clean energy industries is one cornerstone of Governor David A. Paterson’s comprehensive energy agenda, which will make New York the most energy-efficient state in the nation, expand the use of renewable energy technologies, and tackle the crisis of climate change,” said Francis J. Murray Jr., President and CEO of NYSERDA.   “Today’s announcement is another step forward towards building a vibrant clean energy economy that will create jobs and increase the deployment of ‘Made in New York’ technologies that will be used throughout the world.”

"Prism Solar’s efforts to create new manufacturing jobs right here in Ulster County promises to provide a much needed boost to our economy while contributing to the momentum that is transforming the region into a hub for solar innovation. These state funds will help the
company hit the ground running, furthering our vision for a new green economy," said Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D - Ulster / Dutchess), Chair of the Assembly Energy Committee.

Prism Solar plans to employ 100 workers in the next couple of years, increasing to 400 in as soon as five years as the manufacturing line is scaled-up to produce approximately 60MW of HPC modules in addition to a planned 1GW holographic film line. The holographic film, composed of holograms that concentrate light onto silicon cells, represents Prism Solar’s core technology.
