Sonoma Mountain Village, Codding Investment's innovative new landmark redevelopment, today dedicated the largest privately-owned solar array in California. The innovative live/work development is open for occupancy by businesses. The business center within this comprehensive 200-acre village, located on the former Agilent Technologies campus near Sonoma State University, is completely powered by solar electricity, thanks to Codding's use of 1.14 Megawatt solar array, designed and developed by PowerLight Corporation.
Sonoma Mountain Village, located in the picturesque wine country north of San Francisco, successfully blends high-tech jobs, residential properties, and attractive retail and dining destinations into one navigable pedestrian-oriented neighborhood. There will be 2,000 residential units in the Village; new residents will be drawn to this unique new neighborhood by its high-tech industry jobs and environmentally conscious sensibilities. "Sonoma Mountain Village is an extremely unique, environmentally sound and comprehensively sustainable new community," said Brad Baker, Codding Investments' president and chief executive officer. "By making the business center 100% solar-powered, we're able to create a truly one-of-a-kind development on a scale that hasn't been realized before and at the same time provide our customers with stable energy costs. Solar provides clean, emissions-free electric power; it is a power solution that's in keeping with our sustainability goals." "We're delighted that Codding Investments selected PowerLight to provide clean, reliable solar generation to power Sonoma Mountain Village," said PowerLight chairman and CEO Tom Dinwoodie. "What Codding has brought to this region is a truly wonderful community concept where business, industry and residences mesh beautifully with concern for the environment and culture, creating a new kind of suburban village." Collaborating with master builder Richard Pope, urban planners from Fisher and Hall Urban Design, and PowerLight Corporation, Codding has established an attractive manmade environment, offering a haven for high-tech industry and an incubator for entrepreneurial businesses. Target clients for Sonoma Mountain Village will come from such fields as alternative energy, medical device research, high-tech, natural products and financial services. Codding Investment's approach has drawn broad support from California government officials, Sonoma State University, and other regional stakeholders. Rohnert Park Mayor Tim Smith noted, "While any approvals for this project will, of course, require full review by the City of Rohnert Park, I'm impressed with Sonoma Mountain Villages' thoughtful concept, as well as the environmentally-focused components incorporated into this new proposed mixed-used community."
