NHA Congratulates Olympics on Going Green with Hydropower

Washington, D.C. (February 26, 2010) – As the 21st Winter Olympic Games come to a close this weekend, the National Hydropower Association applauds the Vancouver Organizing Committee for hosting the first Games in history to achieve a "carbon neutral" status – doing so, in part, by relying on renewable hydropower for 90 percent of its electricity.

“As our neighbors in Canada have showcased during the Olympics, hydropower has a tremendous role to play in meeting renewable energy and environmental goals here in the United States as well”, said Linda Church Ciocci, NHA's executive director. “The hydropower industry is poised to double its current capacity, provide reliable electricity for American families, and create thousands of new jobs as it helps steer the United States toward energy security and a clean, renewable energy future.”
