American Clean Energy and Security Act Can Spur Growth in Energy and Green Jobs
Washington, DC Washington, D.C. (June 29, 2009) – The following is a statement from National Hydropower Association Executive Director Linda Church Ciocci reacting to House passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act, H.R. 2454:
We in the U.S. hydropower industry urge legislators to continue to explore the ways waterpower resources can support our energy, environmental, and economic goals. As a clean, domestic, proven resource with the potential to double its capacity, hydropower can – and should – be a key part of our energy future.
"The National Hydropower Association congratulates the House on passage of H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. This legislation helps set us on a course for addressing our energy and environmental priorities, while also supporting development of green jobs across the country. "We are particularly pleased to see that the House has recognized the important role that hydropower, America's largest renewable resource, plays in the clean-energy mix. Expanding the nation's hydropower resources will create jobs and attract investment, while bringing more clean, domestic, low-carbon energy online, both through new hydro facilities and by helping to integrate variable resources, such as wind and solar, into the electric grid. "We in the U.S. hydropower industry urge legislators to continue to explore the ways waterpower resources can support our energy, environmental, and economic goals. As a clean, domestic, proven resource with the potential to double its capacity, hydropower can – and should – be a key part of our energy future. "The National Hydropower Association will continue to work with legislators and key stakeholders to develop policies that will ensure that the country's waterpower resources will continue to serve America's energy, environmental, and economic priorities for generations to come."
