The National Hydropower Association is the only national trade association exclusively dedicated to representing the interests of the U.S. hydropower industry, which includes all forms of water energy -- conventional, hydrokinetic, tidal and ocean.

Since 1983, NHA has represented the majority of domestic, non-federal hydroelectric producers. The association's approximate 140 members include public utilities, investor-owned utilities, independent power producers, equipment manufacturers, environmental and engineering consultants, and hydropower attorneys from all regions of the country.

Its mission is to protect and promote the nation's largest renewable resource through its legislative, regulatory, technical and public communications activities. Some of the issues on which NHA works include:

*Incentives for new hydropower development at existing hydro projects and non-hydro dams.
*Inclusion of hydropower in renewable energy programs, green markets and global warming solutions.
*R&D for new hydropower technologies that better address environmental impacts and help meet the growing need for pollution-free electricity.
