Mitsubishi Electric PV Modules Chosen for One Megawatt Solar Electric System

Panels will produce 100 percent of Far West Rice Mill's power

CYPRESS, Calif., December 10, 2007 - Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics USA, Inc. will provide photovoltaic (PV) panels for a one megawatt solar electric system at Far West Rice Mills in Nelson, Calif. When the system is completed it will generate all of the power for the mill's operations.

Far West Rice, Inc. is a rice milling and marketing company located in the heart of the rice growing region of Northern CaliforniaThe multi-million dollar solar project, being built by Pacific Power Management of Auburn, Calif., and managed by Far West Solar, qualifies for a $1,802,363 rebate from PG&E, according to Pacific Power. 

Mitsubishi Electric is providing 5,670 of its 180Wp PV modules, which will generate one megawatt of electricity. (A megawatt is enough to power about 190 average-size homes.)  “We are excited to see companies like Far West Rice switching to clean energy. Mitsubishi Electric’s high-strength, corrosion-resistant modules contain no lead solder, a technology Mitsubishi Electric introduced to America in 2005. Instead of lead-solder coating for the cells, Mitsubishi Electric developed silver electrodes that offer superior weatherproofing and higher PV module conversion efficiency.
