MREA PV 406.01 Code Primer for Officials and Installers

Course Description

This course presents an in-depth analysis of issues for photovoltaic (PV) systems relating to National Electrical Code (NEC) Section 690. Code issues in PV system design and specification will be covered as well as issues concerning product listing requirements, wiring, grounding, and labeling.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

• Define PV system types and their respective code distinctions
• Identify the major topics covered in NEC Section 690
• Identify major revisions in the 2011 version of the NEC
• Outline and describe a standard ‘system checklist’ for completing a system installation
• Define required labeling and markings required by the NEC
• Identify common mistakes in system design and installation
• Identify guidelines for permitting and inspecting PV systems

• 7.0 continuing educatiion credits for NABCEP PV Installer Certification
• 7.5 credit hours for WI Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification
• 7.5 credit hours for WI Journeyman and Master Electrician Certification
