Met Office experts will be at All Energy 2012 in Aberdeen this week to showcase the end-to-end consultancy services it provides for wind energy projects, both onshore and offshore.
Weather and climate have a huge impact on the success of both offshore and onshore renewable energy projects. Dual operation centres at our headquarters in Exeter and at our marine centre of excellence in Aberdeen guarantee an accurate and reliable supply of weather and metocean information. As the industry grows, we work in partnership to provide tailored solutions to the challenges ahead and help reduce risks with our expert advice during planning, construction and operations.
Onshore, the accuracy of high quality archives of simulated wind data is further improved by using the Met Office's high-resolution dynamical downscaling technique to allow for local terrain and land use around the site through its long-term wind assessment solution; Virtual Met Mast™.
Offshore, the development of a new marine data archive in a project worth over £110,000 of investment will allow the offshore renewables industry access to a more accurate standardised database, providing support to developers and operators through the lifecycle of a marine development.
The Met Office offers a range of innovative products aimed directly at the offshore and onshore renewable energy sector throughout each stage of the wind energy lifecycle, including:
