Solar Division also to equip Avancis FAB 2 production facility in Torgau
9th of September 2010, Alzenau, Germany The end of August 2010 saw solar module manufacturer Avancis lays the foundation stone for its second production facility in Torgau, Saxony. The firm has commissioned Leybold Optics with the supply of key production systems for vacuum-based processes at the facility during the first half of 2011. The 100 MWp/a in additional production capacity which will be available once the 18-month construction project has been completed will be due in no small part to these systems. "This project not only builds on the cooperation our companies have enjoyed since 2006, but also takes it to a new level" underlines Torsten Winkler, Director of Marketing & Sales for the Solar Division at Leybold Optics. The Dresden-based firm also equipped the first Avancis production facility in Torgau with coating systems.
Systems for all vacuum processes Leybold Optics is supplying the Torgau site with production systems for both the depositing of thin sputtered and evaporated layers and the thermal treatment of the absorber layers which are to be manufactured. As Torsten Winkler explains: “The new systems for the second production facility see us use upscaling and process optimization to both increase the coatable area and significantly shorten cycle times. This in turn enables us to quadruple system capacity.” Leybold Optics – A blend of tailored solutions and tradition As one of the world’s leading vacuum system manufacturers, Leybold Optics GmbH is developing and manufacturing surface coating systems and custom tailored equipment. The foundation for the firm’s present-day success was laid by inventors Ernst Leybold and Wilhelm Carl Heraeus 150 years ago.
