Six exciting workshops led by national leaders will be held on November 18. Register soon to reserve a seat.
Jerry Ventre will be the instructor for the Distributed Power Systems: Transitioning to a Sustainable Energy Future workshop. The purpose of the workshop is two-fold: to objectively compare PV and renewable power systems with fuel-based systems and to discuss alternative pathways to a sustainable energy future. This workshop qualifies for NABCEP's six (6) Continuing Education Contact Hours for re-certification under non-technical instruction related to photovoltaics and solar thermal.
Chris Warfel of ENTECH Engineering and an active member of NABCEP Committees, will teach Advanced Concepts in the Design, Installation, and Performance of Photovoltaic Technology. This course will provide instruction in the design of photovoltaics utilizing the latest codes and requirements from the National Electrical Code (2008). Best installation practices will be discussed using actual on-site inspections as case studies. This workshop also qualifies for NABCEP's six (6) Continuing Education Contact Hours for re-certification under technical instruction related to the Photovoltaic Task Analysis.
Tom Lane of ECS Solar Energy Systems and an ISPQ Certified Master Trainer, will be the instructor for the Solar Hot Water Education for Training the Future Workforce. This course is designed to help Instructors and Solar Thermal Educators with tools and methods for instruction for many different types of solar systems, including solar hot water, solar space heating and solar pool heating systems. The workshop will cover both the design and operational aspects of the installations. This workshop qualifies for NABCEP's six (6) Continuing Education Contact Hours for re-certification under technical instruction related to the Solar Thermal Task Analysis.
Roger Ebbage, the Energy Management Program Coordinator at Lane Community College, will lead the workshop on Energy: Find It, Evaluate It, Save It and Save the Planet! This workshop will introduce participants to the top ten energy efficiency opportunities found in commercial buildings. Participants will work with 4-channel dataloggers, spreadsheets and the EPA benchmarking tool, Portfolio Manager. To fully benefit from this workshop students must bring a calculator and laptop computer with WiFi capabilities.
Roy Butler of Four Winds Renewable Energy has more than 12 years of design and installation experience with grid-tied and off-grid wind electric systems. He will be the instructor for the Small Wind Training for Educators – Workforce Training from an Installer’s Perspective. This advanced course will help instructors understand the step-by-step process that a small wind installer would follow for an actual wind turbine installation. The workshop will cover basic wind resource assessment, siting considerations, turbine and tower considerations, safety issues and installation of the foundation, tower and turbine.
Michael Veeder of Kool - Temp Heating and Cooling Inc. will be the instructor for the Geothermal Application and Design workshop. This course will start with the basic principles of how the heat pump works involving the vapor compression refrigeration cycle. Participants will learn the four components of the system as well as looping configurations and design of various looping layouts such as vertical, pond and horizontal.
All workshops are full-day and include six hours of instruction.
