Furnas Signs on as Host Utility for HydroVision Brasil, DistribuTECH Brasil and POWER-GEN Brasil

January 24, 2013

PennWell Corporation announces that Furnas will be the Host Utility for HydroVision Brasil, DistribuTECH Brasil and POWER-GEN Brasil, to be jointly held September 24-26, 2013, at the Transamerica Expo Center in São Paulo, Brazil.

Furnas is a major subsidiary of Eletrobras in charge of generation and transmission of electric power in the southeast region of the country. It is currently comprised of 15 hydro plants, 2 thermal plants, 52 substations and roughly 20,000 Km of high voltage transmission lines. New power plants, including wind power plants, and new transmission lines will be integrated into the electric system within the next few years.  Over 40% of the energy consumed in Brazil passes through the Furnas Electric System.

“We are pleased to present Furnas as our Host Utility for the three events and look forward to providing the Brazilian energy market with a unique event designed to bridge the industry sectors together under one roof.  Meeting the challenges of tomorrow, HydroVision Brasil, DistribuTECH Brasil  and POWER-GEN Brasil will bring together thought leaders and experts across the hydropower, transmission and distribution, and power generation sectors for three days of in-depth discussion about the topics surrounding the sustainability and continued expansion of these growing markets. The unique co-location of these events provides the energy industry with an integrated international platform, offering valuable opportunities for information exchange, networking and new business development across the market sectors,” said Mrs. Marla Barnes, Group Publisher of PennWell’s Hydro Group.

Expecting an international attendance of more than 2,500 energy executives and decision makers and more than 200 exhibiting companies, HydroVision Brasil, DistribuTECH Brasil and POWER-GEN Brasil will focus on the practical issues and solutions most critical to the success and continued growth of the Brazilian power industry.

HydroVision Brasil’s conference program will focus on key strategies and solutions surrounding new hydro energy production, environmental protection and management, regulatory issues, risk management, small and medium hydro energy, and equipment and technology.  DistribuTECH Brasil will feature content covering smart metering, distribution automation, energy efficiency, commercial energy losses and long-distance high-voltage electricity transmission issues.  POWER-GEN Brasil will focus on conventional thermal power generation, renewable energy generation and nuclear power generation. Conference sessions are expected to be at capacity in September, with professionals discussing the substantial issues surrounding the energy industry as a whole and how future demands can be met.

“Since the inception of HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil, we have been met with great support from the industry.  We particularly look forward to the inaugural launch of POWER-GEN Brasil in 2013 and the dynamic interaction between the three events and their attendees,” said Mr. Michael Grossman, Group Publisher of PennWell’s Transmission and Distribution Group. “The momentum seen by these events thus far underscores the importance of such a platform to the industry and the acute international interest in the Brazilian market. With support of Furnas behind these events, the quality of attendees will be exceptional.”

HydroVision Brasil is presented by Hydro Review Worldwide (HRW) and Hydro Review magazines, DistribuTECH Brasil is presented by POWERGRID International magazine and POWER-GEN Brasil is presented by Power Engineering International.  The events are owned and produced by PennWell Corporation based in Tulsa, Okla.
