Leading Patent Owners, Leading Countries & States in Clean Energy

The CEPGI tracks the granting of patents in the Clean Energy sector and monitors important technological breakthroughs in this field. The Clean Energy Patent Growth Index (CEPGI) provides an indication of the trend of innovative activity in the Clean Energy sector since 2002 in the U.S., along with Leading Patent Owners and Leading Country and State information. The value for the CEPGI for the fourth quarter of 2007 is 227, which is up from the third quarter of 2007 and down from the fourth quarter of 2006. As depicted in the figure, the CEPGI total for 2007 was down relative to 2006 and up over the five year period: Leading patent owners since 2002 in the Clean Energy field include Honda, General Motors, Ballard, United Technologies, Toyota and Ford. The U.S., Japan and Germany dominate the rankings of Clean Energy patent owners as do the states of Michigan, California and New York.
