Alexandria, VA A federal tax credit saved a Virginia man nearly $24,000 on a solar electric and hot water installation on his Alexandria home. For Steven "Boots" Barnes, the cost of installing a home solar power system in Virginia is not only offset by federal tax credits, but also generates a steady revenue stream with solar renewable energy credits (SREC's). Add those savings to significant utility-bill savings and the result is a return on investment of less than eight years.

"It has been outstanding for us," Barnes said. "It is the future for our kids. We are always willing to show neighbors and discuss the particulars. The installation was very painless with no maintenance. We chose to go with a national solar integrator, groSolar, who was outstanding. We're fortunate we chose groSolar out of the two companies we considered."
